Bathtub Drain Lever Broken: Essential Fixes for Smooth Bathroom Function

A malfunctioning bathtub drain lever can cause a range of inconveniences, from an overflowing bathtub to a persistent leak. Fortunately, fixing a broken drain lever is often a straightforward task that can be accomplished in a short amount of time.

The first step is to identify the type of drain lever you have. There are two main types: lift-and-turn and push-and-pull. Lift-and-turn levers are typically found on older bathtubs, while push-and-pull levers are more common on newer models.

Once you have identified the type of drain lever you have, you can begin the repair process. For lift-and-turn levers, you will need to remove the cap on the top of the lever and then use a screwdriver to remove the screw that holds the lever in place. Once the screw is removed, you can pull the lever up and out of the tub.

For push-and-pull levers, you will need to remove the faceplate on the front of the lever and then use a screwdriver to remove the screw that holds the lever in place. Once the screw is removed, you can pull the lever out of the tub.

With the lever removed, you can now inspect it for damage. If the lever is cracked or broken, it will need to be replaced. You can purchase a new drain lever at most hardware stores.

To install a new drain lever, simply insert the lever into the hole in the tub and secure it with the screw. If you are replacing a lift-and-turn lever, you will also need to replace the cap on the top of the lever.

Once the new drain lever is installed, close the drain and check for leaks. If there are no leaks, you have successfully repaired the drain lever.
