Replacing a 3-Piece Bathtub Faucet: A Comprehensive Guide

Replacing a 3-piece bathtub faucet is a DIY project that requires basic plumbing skills and can be completed in a few hours. Follow this comprehensive guide to ensure a successful installation.

New 3-piece bathtub faucet
Adjustable wrench
Plumber's putty
Teflon tape
Faucet puller or flat-head screwdriver
Flashlight

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Shut Off Water Supply:

Locate the shut-off valves under or behind your sink. Turn them clockwise to关闭off the water supply to your bathtub faucet.

2. Remove Old Faucet:

Use an adjustable wrench to loosen the nuts connecting the faucet handles and spout to the base. Use a faucet puller or flat-head screwdriver to remove the handles. Unscrew the spout from the base and remove the entire faucet.

3. Clean Installation Area:

Thoroughly clean the area where the new faucet will be installed. Remove any old sealant or debris.

4. Install New Baseplate:

Place the new baseplate over the mounting holes. Apply a thin bead of plumber's putty around the base of the baseplate and screw it securely into place.

Wrap the threads of the spout with Teflon tape and screw it into the baseplate. Tighten it firmly, but do not overtighten.

6. Install Handles:

Apply a small amount of plumber's putty to the threads of the handles. Position the handles over the mounting holes and tighten the nuts by hand. Use an adjustable wrench to further tighten them, being careful not to strip the threads.

7. Reconnect Water Supply:

Turn the shut-off valves counterclockwise to restore the water supply. Check for leaks around the baseplate and handles with a flashlight. If you notice any leaks, retighten the connections and apply additional plumber's putty as needed.
