Kohler Bathtub Drain Not Working? Here's How to Fix It

A clogged or malfunctioning bathtub drain can be a major inconvenience, especially when you're trying to enjoy a relaxing bath. If your Kohler bathtub drain is not working properly, there are a few potential causes and solutions you can try before calling a plumber.

1. Clogged Drain

The most common cause of a clogged bathtub drain is hair, soap scum, and other debris. To unclog the drain, remove the drain cover and use a drain snake or auger to clear any obstructions. If you don't have a drain snake, you can try using a baking soda and vinegar mixture. Pour 1/2 cup of baking soda down the drain, followed by 1/2 cup of vinegar. Let the mixture sit for 15 minutes, then flush the drain with hot water.

2. Broken Drain Stopper

If your bathtub drain stopper is not working properly, it may be broken or damaged. To replace the drain stopper, remove the old stopper by unscrewing it from the drain. Apply plumber's putty to the threads of the new stopper, and screw it into the drain. Tighten the stopper until it is snug, but do not overtighten. Once the stopper is installed, test it to make sure it is working properly.

3. Worn-Out Washer

The washer in your bathtub drain may become worn out over time, which can cause the drain to leak. To replace the washer, remove the drain stopper and unscrew the drain body. Remove the old washer from the drain body and replace it with a new washer. Tighten the drain body until it is snug, but do not overtighten. Once the washer is installed, test the drain to make sure it is working properly.

4. Clogged Overflow Drain

If your bathtub has an overflow drain, it may become clogged with debris. To unclog the overflow drain, remove the overflow cover and use a small brush or pipe cleaner to clear any obstructions. Once the overflow drain is clear, replace the overflow cover.

5. Call a Plumber

If you have tried all of the above solutions and your Kohler bathtub drain is still not working properly, it may be necessary to call a plumber. A plumber can diagnose the problem and recommend the best course of action.
