How to Remove the Drain from a Bathtub

Removing the drain from a bathtub is a relatively simple task that can be completed in a few minutes. By following these steps, you can easily remove the drain and clean it or replace it if necessary.

Steps:

Turn off the water supply to the bathtub. This is typically done by turning the shutoff valves located under the sink.
Remove the overflow plate. The overflow plate is the small, round plate located on the side of the bathtub near the top. It is held in place by a few screws. Remove the screws and lift the plate off.
Remove the stopper screen. The stopper screen is a small, round screen that fits inside the drain opening. It is held in place by a few clips. Pry the clips apart and lift the screen out.
Loosen the drain nut. The drain nut is a large, round nut that is located at the bottom of the drain opening. Use an adjustable wrench to loosen the nut by turning it counterclockwise.
Remove the drain. Once the nut is loose, you can remove the drain by pulling it straight up. Be careful not to drop the drain into the bathtub.
