How to Remove a Kohler Pop-Up Bathtub Drain

Kohler pop-up bathtub drains are a convenient and stylish way to control the flow of water in your bathtub. Removing a Kohler pop-up bathtub drain is a relatively simple process that can be completed in just a few steps.

Step 1: Turn Off the Water Supply

The first step is to turn off the water supply to the bathtub. This will prevent water from flowing out of the drain when you remove it. The water supply valves are typically located under the sink or behind the bathtub.

Step 2: Remove the Overflow Plate

The overflow plate is the small, round plate located on the side of the bathtub near the top. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws that hold the overflow plate in place. Once the screws are removed, you can lift the overflow plate off the bathtub.

Step 3: Remove the Stopper

The stopper is the part of the drain that plugs the hole and prevents water from flowing out. To remove the stopper, simply pull it straight up. You may need to use a little force if the stopper is stuck.

Step 4: Remove the Drain Assembly

The drain assembly is the metal part of the drain that connects the stopper to the bathtub drain pipe. Use an adjustable wrench to loosen the nut that holds the drain assembly in place. Once the nut is loose, you can lift the drain assembly out of the bathtub.

Step 5: Clean or Replace the Drain Assembly

Once you have removed the drain assembly, you can clean it or replace it with a new one. If the drain assembly is simply clogged, you can clean it by soaking it in a vinegar and baking soda solution for a few hours. Rinse the drain assembly thoroughly before reinstalling it.

Step 6: Reassemble the Drain

Once the drain assembly is clean or replaced, you can reassemble the drain. Start by inserting the drain assembly into the bathtub drain pipe. Tighten the nut that holds the drain assembly in place using an adjustable wrench.

Next, insert the stopper into the drain assembly. Push the stopper down until it fits snugly into place.

Finally, replace the overflow plate and tighten the screws that hold it in place.

Turn on the Water Supply
