How to Install a Center Drain Bathtub

Installing a center drain bathtub is a relatively simple plumbing project that can be completed in a few hours. By following these step-by-step instructions, you can install your new bathtub with confidence.

Materials you will need:

Center drain bathtub
Drain assembly
Plumber's putty
Teflon tape
Caulk

Step 1: Prepare the bathtub

Place the bathtub upside down on a flat surface. Apply a bead of plumber's putty around the drain hole. Place the drain assembly in the hole and tighten the nuts until it is snug.

Step 2: Install the overflow drain

If your bathtub has an overflow drain, install it now. Apply a bead of plumber's putty around the overflow hole. Place the overflow drain in the hole and tighten the nut until it is snug.

Step 3: Turn the bathtub upright

Turn the bathtub upright and place it in the desired location. Level the bathtub using a level and adjust the feet as needed.

Step 4: Connect the drain and overflow drain

Connect the drain pipe to the drain assembly using a wrench. Hand-tighten the connection and then tighten it an additional 1/4 turn with the wrench.
