How to Fix a Chipped Bathtub
A chipped bathtub is not only unsightly, but it can also be a breeding ground for bacteria. Fortunately, it is relatively easy to fix if you have the right tools and materials.
What You Will Need
- Sandpaper (100-grit and 220-grit)
- Putty knife
- Two-part epoxy resin
- Mixing bowl and stir stick
- Clean rags
Step 1: Clean the Area
Thoroughly clean the area around the chip with a clean rag and some rubbing alcohol. This will remove any dirt or debris that could interfere with the adhesion of the epoxy resin.
Step 2: Sand the Area
Use the 100-grit sandpaper to sand the area around the chip. This will create a rough surface that the epoxy resin can adhere to. Be sure to remove any loose paint or debris.
Step 3: Mix the Epoxy Resin
In a mixing bowl, combine equal parts of the two-part epoxy resin. Stir the mixture thoroughly until it is well combined. The epoxy resin will begin to set within a few minutes, so work quickly.
Step 4: Apply the Epoxy Resin
Use the putty knife to apply the epoxy resin to the chip. Be sure to fill the chip completely and smooth the surface. Remove any excess epoxy resin with a clean rag.
Step 5: Sand the Epoxy Resin
Once the epoxy resin has dried, use the 220-grit sandpaper to lightly sand the surface. This will smooth the surface and make it less noticeable.
Step 6: Clean the Area
Wipe the repaired area with a clean rag to remove any dust or debris. Your bathtub is now repaired!
