How To Fix A Slow Leak In Bathtub Drain
A slow leak in your bathtub drain can be a frustrating problem. Not only is it annoying to constantly hear the dripping water, but it can also lead to higher water bills and even damage to your bathroom floor. Fortunately, fixing a slow leak in a bathtub drain is often a relatively easy and inexpensive do-it-yourself project.
Here are the steps on how to fix a slow leak in a bathtub drain:
- Determine the source of the leak. To do this, first remove the drain stopper and cover and then fill the tub with water. If the water leaks out of the overflow drain, then the leak is most likely coming from the drain seal. If the water leaks out of the base of the drain, then the leak is most likely coming from the drain gasket.
- If the leak is coming from the drain seal, then you will need to replace the seal. To do this, first remove the old seal by gently prying it out with a screwdriver. Then, clean the area around the drain where the seal will be installed. Apply a bead of silicone caulk around the drain and then insert the new seal. Press the seal firmly into place and allow the caulk to dry completely before using the tub again.
- If the leak is coming from the drain gasket, then you will need to replace the gasket. To do this, first remove the old gasket by gently prying it out with a screwdriver. Then, clean the area around the drain where the gasket will be installed. Apply a bead of silicone caulk around the drain and then insert the new gasket. Press the gasket firmly into place and allow the caulk to dry completely before using the tub again.
Once you have fixed the leak, be sure to test it by filling the tub with water and checking for any leaks. If the leak has been fixed, then you can enjoy a leak-free bathtub once again.
