Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Turn Off the Water Supply

Before starting, turn off the water supply to the bathtub by closing the valves under the sink. Open the faucets to release any remaining water in the pipes.

2. Remove the Handle

Use a flathead screwdriver to pry off the cap covering the handle screw. Remove the screw and pull the handle straight off the stem.

3. Unscrew the Packing Nut

Using an adjustable wrench, loosen the packing nut located around the base of the faucet stem. Turn the nut counterclockwise to remove it.

4. Remove the Stem

Once the packing nut is removed, the faucet stem should be loose enough to pull out. Gently grasp the stem with pliers or a wrench and pull it straight up.

5. Replace the Stem

Insert the new faucet stem into the opening. Align the splines on the stem with the slots in the faucet body and press it down firmly.

6. Tighten the Packing Nut

7. Reinstall the Handle
