Cleaning Oven Racks In The Bathtub
When it comes to deep cleaning your kitchen, don't forget about your oven racks! Over time, they can accumulate grease, food residue, and other grime. Cleaning them can be a daunting task, but it's easier than you think. With the right tools and a little elbow grease, you can have your oven racks sparkling clean in no time.
Step 1: Gather your supplies.
- Dish soap
- Baking soda
- Vinegar
- Hot water
- Sponge
- Scrub brush
- Rubber gloves
- Bathtub plug
Step 2: Prepare your oven racks.
Remove the oven racks from the oven and place them in the bathtub. If you have a large bathtub, you may be able to fit two racks at a time. If not, you'll need to clean them one at a time.
Step 3: Plug the bathtub.
This will help to keep the water from draining out while you're cleaning the racks.
Step 4: Fill the bathtub with hot water.
The water should be hot enough to loosen the grease and grime on the racks, but not so hot that it damages them.
Step 5: Add dish soap and baking soda to the water.
Use about 1/4 cup of dish soap and 1/2 cup of baking soda per rack. Swish the water around to dissolve the soap and baking soda.
Step 6: Let the racks soak.
Allow the racks to soak in the water for at least 30 minutes. This will give the soap and baking soda time to work their magic.
Step 7: Scrub the racks.
Use a sponge or scrub brush to scrub the racks. Be sure to get into all the nooks and crannies. If there are any particularly stubborn spots, you can use a little more baking soda or dish soap.
Step 8: Rinse the racks.
Rinse the racks with clean water until all the soap and baking soda is gone.
Step 9: Dry the racks.
Use a towel to dry the racks completely. This will help to prevent them from rusting.
Step 10: Put the racks back in the oven.
Once the racks are dry, you can put them back in the oven. Your oven racks will be sparkling clean and ready to use again.
Additional Tips:
- If you have a self-cleaning oven, you can use the self-cleaning cycle to clean the oven racks.
- You can also clean oven racks in a dishwasher. Just be sure to remove any food residue from the racks before you put them in the dishwasher.
- If you don't have a bathtub, you can clean oven racks in a large sink or even outdoors with a hose.
- Be sure to wear rubber gloves when cleaning oven racks. The chemicals in the cleaning solution can irritate your skin.
- Clean your oven racks regularly to prevent grease and grime from building up.
