Bathtub Drain Not Working? Here's How to Fix It

A clogged bathtub drain can be a frustrating and inconvenient problem. If you're dealing with this issue, don't despair. There are several simple steps you can take to fix it yourself.

Step 1: Check the Hair Catcher

The first step is to check the hair catcher. This small, mesh screen is located at the top of the drain and is designed to trap hair and other debris. If the hair catcher is clogged, it can prevent water from draining properly. Simply remove the hair catcher and clean it with soap and water. If it's badly clogged, you may need to replace it.

Step 2: Use a Plunger

If the hair catcher is clear but the drain is still clogged, you can try using a plunger. Fill the bathtub with enough water to cover the plunger's cup. Place the plunger over the drain and push and pull vigorously for a few minutes. This should help to dislodge any clogs.

Step 3: Snake the Drain

If plunging doesn't work, you can try snaking the drain. A drain snake is a long, flexible tool that can be inserted into the drain to break up clogs. To use a drain snake, insert the end of the snake into the drain and turn the handle clockwise. As you turn the handle, the snake will feed into the drain and break up any clogs.

Step 4: Call a Plumber

If you've tried all of the above steps and the drain is still clogged, it's time to call a plumber. A plumber will have the tools and expertise to clear the clog and get your bathtub draining properly again.
