Fixing a Leaky Delta Bathtub Faucet Single Handle

A leaky faucet can be a frustrating and annoying problem, but it's one that can be easily fixed with the right tools and materials. If you have a Delta single-handle bathtub faucet that's leaking, follow these steps to fix it.

Tools and materials you'll need:

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Allen wrench
  • Replacement cartridge
  • Plumber's putty
  • Flashlight

Step-by-step instructions:

  1. Turn off the water supply to the faucet. This is typically done by turning off the valves under the sink.
  2. Remove the handle. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw that holds the handle in place. Then, pull the handle straight up to remove it.
  3. Remove the cartridge. Use an Allen wrench to remove the screw that holds the cartridge in place. Then, pull the cartridge straight up to remove it.
  4. Inspect the cartridge. Look for any signs of damage, such as cracks or chips. If the cartridge is damaged, it will need to be replaced.
  5. Apply plumber's putty to the new cartridge. Apply a thin bead of plumber's putty around the base of the new cartridge.
  6. Insert the new cartridge. Push the new cartridge into the faucet body. Make sure that the cartridge is properly seated.
  7. Tighten the screw. Use the Allen wrench to tighten the screw that holds the cartridge in place.
  8. Reinstall the handle. Push the handle back onto the faucet body. Then, insert the screw and tighten it with a Phillips screwdriver.
  9. Turn on the water supply. Turn on the valves under the sink to restore water flow to the faucet.
  10. Check for leaks. Use a flashlight to check for any leaks around the faucet. If there are any leaks, tighten the screws or adjust the cartridge until the leaks stop.

Tips:

  • If you're not sure what type of cartridge your faucet uses, consult the Delta website or contact Delta customer service.
  • Be careful not to overtighten the screws when reassembling the faucet.
  • If you're still having problems with your faucet, call a plumber for assistance.
