How To Remove Bathtub Diverter Valve

Bathtub diverter valves control the flow of water between the tub spout and showerhead. If your diverter valve is leaking or faulty, you'll need to remove it to replace it. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to do it:

* Adjustable wrench * Plumber's putty * New diverter valve (if replacing)

* Turn off the water supply to the bathtub. * Open the bathtub faucet to release any remaining water.

Step 1: Identify the Diverter Valve

Locate the diverter valve on the tub spout. It's usually a small knob or lever that switches between the spout and showerhead.

Step 2: Remove the Escutcheon Plate

Use a screwdriver or adjustable wrench to remove the screws or clips that hold the escutcheon plate (the decorative cover) in place.

Step 3: Unscrew the Diverter Valve

Once the escutcheon plate is removed, you should see the diverter valve. Use an adjustable wrench to unscrew the valve counterclockwise.

Step 4: Remove the Diverter Valve

Pull out the diverter valve. There will likely be some old plumber's putty around the base of the valve. Remove as much of the old putty as possible.
