1. Gather Your Supplies

Before you start, gather the following supplies:

Plunger
Baking soda
Vinegar
Drain snake

2. Remove the Drain Cover

Most bathtub drains have a removable cover that can be unscrewed by hand or with a screwdriver. Remove the cover to expose the drain.

3. Use a Plunger

If the drain is only partially clogged, a plunger can often dislodge the blockage. Fill the bathtub with enough water to cover the plunger and then plunge vigorously.

4. Make a Baking Soda and Vinegar Solution

If the plunger doesn't work, try using a baking soda and vinegar solution. Pour 1/2 cup of baking soda into the drain, followed by 1/2 cup of vinegar. Let the solution sit for 15 minutes, then pour hot water down the drain.

5. Use a Drain Snake

If the baking soda and vinegar solution doesn't work, you may need to use a drain snake. Insert the snake into the drain and turn the crank to feed the snake down. When you feel resistance, turn the crank in the opposite direction to retrieve the blockage.

6. Clean the Drain

Once the blockage is removed, clean the drain with a drain cleaner or a mixture of 1/2 cup bleach and 1/2 cup water. Pour the solution down the drain and let it sit for 15 minutes, then rinse with hot water.

7. Prevent Future Clogs

To prevent future clogs, follow these tips:

Cover the drain when not in use.
Rinse the drain with hot water after each use.
Clean the drain regularly with a drain cleaner or a baking soda and vinegar solution.
