How to Patch a Hole in a Bathtub

Epoxy resin
Fiberglass mat
Sandpaper
Mixing cups and sticks

Acetone or denatured alcohol
Razor blade or utility knife

Instructions:

1. Prepare the bathtub surface

Start by cleaning the area around the hole with acetone or denatured alcohol. This will remove any dirt or grease that could interfere with the adhesion of the epoxy. Once the area is clean, sand it lightly with sandpaper to create a rough surface for the epoxy to grip onto.

2. Mix the epoxy

Follow the instructions on the epoxy package to mix the resin and hardener. Be sure to wear gloves when mixing the epoxy, as it can be irritating to the skin. Once the epoxy is mixed, apply a thin layer to the area around the hole.

3. Apply the fiberglass mat

Cut a piece of fiberglass mat to fit over the hole. Place the mat over the epoxy and smooth it out with your fingers. Be sure to press the mat firmly into the epoxy to ensure a good bond.

4. Apply more epoxy

Once the fiberglass mat is in place, apply another layer of epoxy over the top. Be sure to cover the entire surface of the mat, including the edges.

5. Let the epoxy cure

Allow the epoxy to cure according to the manufacturer's instructions. This may take several hours or even overnight. Once the epoxy is cured, the hole in your bathtub will be patched and you can start using it again.

Tips:

If the hole is large, you may need to apply multiple layers of fiberglass mat and epoxy.
Be sure to sand the edges of the patch smooth once the epoxy is cured. This will help to prevent the patch from peeling or chipping.
If the patch is in a visible area, you may want to paint it to match the color of the bathtub.
